Pharma distributor's son founded and runs privately held Emcure Pharmaceuticals. He started the Pune-based generics maker as a contract manufacturer for multinationals in 1981. After more than a decade Mehta began marketing and distributing his own branded generics. Today close to 60% of Emcure's revenue of $650 million is generated overseas, mainly in North America. Emcure, which counts private equity firm Bain Capital as a key investor, employs 11,000 people, has 9 factories and sells in 65 countries.
