Who is the most influential living management thinker?
That was the simple question that inspired the original Thinkers 50 in 2001. The result was the first-ever global ranking of business gurus.
Created and compiled by Des Dearlove and Stuart Crainer, the Thinkers 50 has established itself as the definitive bi-annual guide to which thinkers and ideas are in – and which have been consigned to business history.
The ranking is compiled using a unique methodology. First, people can vote for their guru of choice at the Thinkers 50 website . Thousands have done so from all over the world. This provides a long list. The top 100 names are then assessed against 10 criteria;

• Impact of ideas
• Presentation style
• Written communication
• Loyalty of followers
• Business sense
• International outlook
• Rigour of research
• Accessibility
• The guru factor.
We then take soundings from experts we trust throughout the world and factor in other measures, such as number of Google hits. Throughout the process we work in business schools and at events worldwide continuously asking who is making an impression or set to make an impression on managers and leaders.
