Deepak Dhar of Endemol Shine to move on; start a new venture

Endemol's COO Abhishek Rege to take charge as new chief; Bigg Boss, MasterChef India, Khatron Ke Khiladi count among Endemol's top shows produced

Deepak Dhar, managing director and CEO, Endemol Shine India has decided to move on – after an 11 year stint -- from his position at the end of 2017, to pursue a new venture.

Abhishek Rege, chief operating officer of the company will take charge as Endemol’s CEO. Dhar will work closely with Rege and the Endemol Shine India team during a transition period through to the end of the year.

Dhar declined to talk about his new venture, but sources close to him, said that he is up to “something big and exciting in the content space”.
 
Deepak Dhar was appointed creative director of Endemol India in 2006, before being promoted to Managing Director in 2008, then Managing Director and CEO in 2015.  Under his tenure, the company produced over 40 shows a year, totaling over 1,500 hours of programing. Endemol Shine is now one of the largest content producer in India in the fiction as well as non-fiction (non-scripted) content.

Having joined Endemol Shine India as Head of Commercial and Legal in 2008, Abhishek Rege went on to be promoted to Chief Operating Officer in 2012 and has since led the company’s business strategy and operations across television, film and online.

The company’s credits include Bigg Boss, the top-rated local version of Big Brother, which is now a hit in five regional languages across India, and Fear Factor Khatron Ke Khiladi, which recently completed its ninth season as the number one Hindi show across all channels.

Other unscripted hits include local productions of MasterChef, Deal or No Deal, So You Think You Can Dance, The Voice and many more.
 
Endemol Shine India is majority-owned by Endemol Shine Group, with the remaining share held by CA Media.
