Best Doctors, the world’s largest second-opinion health care firm which specialises in helping people get the right diagnosis and advice from global experts, aims to change the way Indians approach their medical treatment.

The Boston-based company is tying up with Indian insurance firms like IndiaFirst Life Insurance, and large corporations such as Facebook, Symantec and Intuit, to help patients get an accurate second opinion and diagnosis quickly.

While some local insurance firms, start ups and third-party administrators follow a similar model in India, Best Doctors—with more than 30 million global members—claims its main differentiator is its access to the world’s leading doctors. It helps make treatment easy and affordable, at a few dollars a year.

Best Doctors operates on multiple fronts: One is an ‘ask the expert’ query on a medical condition or treatment plan that people can ask over the phone or by email. The patient also gets a personalised report and treatment options.

For critical patients or complex cases, Best Doctors offers inter-consultation services, where a global expert, after studying detailed medical records, consults the patient’s local doctor and advises treatment and diagnosis.
