The new season of the Symphony Orchestra
A month after ringing in the New Year, and getting through the remnants of the revelry and parties, February is a good time to tune in to some rich, classical tones. The new season of the Symphony Orchestra of India, the country’s first fully professional symphony orchestra formed in 2006, starts on February 13.
Presented by Mumbai’s National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), the season will feature a special concert in which Zakir Hussain will perform The Melody Of Rhythm: Triple Concerto. Hussain, who composed the piece, will perform with banjoist Bela Fleck and double bassist Edgar Meyer. The season will also include performances of Tchaikovsky’s rendition of Beethoven’s 4th and 7th symphonies. All the concerts will be conducted by Zane Dalal.
The Orchestra’s two concluding performances of the season (on February 25 and 26) will be hosted in Oman.
Where: Jamshed Bhabha Theatre, NCPA, Mumbai
