Ever since Woodstock — that memorable “3 Days of Peace & Music” back in ’69 — others have tried to recreate the multi-band magic. The latest: An Indian concert that aims to carve a niche in the music calendar. Up in the Himalayas, the Ladakh Confluence is on from August 28 to 31.

Only, it isn’t just a concert. It’s an “eco-adventure mela and music festival,” with percussion, folk, fusion, acoustic and experimental styles, featuring Bauchklang, Talvin Singh, Taufiq Qureshi, Rahul Sharma and a host of others from various parts of the world. There are also workshops, classes, cultural events and stuff for kids.

And of course Ladakh offers the nature-lover a feast for the senses anyway. We think this one’s going to take off. (Speaking of which, flying in isn’t a great idea. It’s 3,500 metres above sea level, so the unadulterated misery of altitude sickness is a very real possibility for plains dwellers. A road trip is the best way to acclimatise.)
