Kothari will work alongside Snapdeal co-founders Kunal Bahl and Rohit Bansal in a key leadership role as Chief Strategy & Investment Officer
Ecommerce giant Snapdeal has roped in Housing.com CEO Jason Kothari as its Chief Strategy & Investment Officer. The announcement comes close on the heels of the merger of Housing.com with Delhi-based Proptiger.com that will see the exit of Kothari in February this year.
Kothari, who was inducted by Housing.com by the Softbank board only after its co-founder and chief executive Rahul Yadav was sacked in 2015, will work alongside Snapdeal co-founders Kunal Bahl and Rohit Bansal in a key leadership role going forward. As per a statement issued by the company, his responsibilities will include leading strategy and corporate development including all investments and partnerships. Besides, his role will also include raising new capital for the company and overseeing firms Snapdeal wholly owns or has invested in. These include names such as digital payments platform Freecharge, fashion products discovery site Exclusively.in and fashion products discovery site, Doozton.com, among others.
Snapdeal, in the past, has made several acquisitions to strengthen its presence in the domestic market. Launched in February 2010 by Bahl and Bansal, Snapdeal today claims to be India’s largest online marketplace, with the widest assortment of over 65 million products spread over 1000 categories. It showcases over 1,25,000 regional, national, and international brands and retailers.
“Jason is a strong business leader and entrepreneur who has already been the CEO of two successful companies,” said Snapdeal’s Bahl.
Kothari said, “Snapdeal is on its way to building one of India’s best companies, and I look forward to helping in making that potential a reality.” At Housing.com, Kothari led the successful turnaround of the company from a position of distress to a market leader in one and a half years using organic and inorganic growth finally leading to the merger with Proptiger.com. Prior to joining Housing.com, Kothari worked as the CEO & Vice Chairman of Valiant Entertainment. An alumni of The Wharton Schooland, he holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
