Jonathan Friedland, chief communications officer, Netflix (June 22) He used the N-word in a team meeting about sensitive words and repeated the word with two African-American HR colleagues.

John Schnatter, founder, Papa John’s (July 11) He was removed as CEO in December2017 for saying the company’s sales took a hit due to National Football League’s ‘Take the Knee’ protest. Last fortnight he used a racial slur in a conference call called to avoid PR debacles.

Liane Hornsey, chief people officer, Uber (July 11) She resigned after anonymous whistleblowers alleged she had systematically dismissed internal complaints of racial discrimination.
