Amid a debate on whether multiplexes can charge exorbitant rates for food and beverages (F&B), Maharashtra food and civil supplies minister Ravindra Chavan told the assembly that “there is no ban on patrons carrying outside food to multiplexes, but if the authorities prohibit it, they could face action”.
The Multiplex Association of India said “it has no formal communication from any regulatory authority” but investors are jittery over the future of multiplexes’ F&B revenue stream—their second largest. A PIL filed by a local in connection with the same is pending in the Bombay High Court. The Multiplex Association of India has joined as a party to the case.
