Bata shoes are no longer the pair of shoes you refer to when you speak of school shoes. While convents and single-branch schools still promote Bata, large, branded schools like DPS and Vidya Niketan have tie-ups with brands like Reebok and Nike and give as much as 50 percent off on shoes.

The prices of high-end brands are the same as last year, while prices of Bata shoes are up almost 25 percent from last year. The benefits of scale definitely do not trickle down to these folk. But on another note, parents who send their children to branded schools spend at least Rs 800 on a pair while parents who send their children to the old schools spend Rs 400.
