According to the Juxt Indian Affluents Study 2010, which covered 57,000 households, there are 3.8 million affluent individuals in the country. (The report defines “affluent” as those who have a monthly household income of over Rs. 1 lakh, own their own house, and a car which costs more than Rs. 8 lakh.)

We found a number of interesting data points in the study.

Among them: Though one out of every 175 urban families is affluent as opposed to one out of every 400 rural families, in terms of actual numbers, the rural affluent are only slightly fewer than their urban counterparts.
