UID Back On Track?

The UID project got a major shot in the arm when the Finance Minister announced that the fertiliser ministry would use the Aadhaar platform to make direct transfer of cash subsidy to farmers. This marks a crucial stage in Aadhaar’s journey as people can now start seeing some actual benefits in owning the number. It also signals that the government is fully behind Aadhaar, notwithstanding the doubts raised by the home minister a few months ago.
