Stars who went low on fame and earnings, and missed the cut
AR Murugadoss (2014 rank: 39) After a long list of releases in 2014, AR Murugadoss had a quiet 2015. The director, best known for remaking his Tamil film Ghajini (2008) in Hindi, had no new releases in the time period under consideration. He does not have any endorsements either.
Pawan Kalyan (2014 rank: 74) The Telugu actor-politician had just one release in 2015, Gopala Gopala, a remake of OMG–Oh My God!. Though the film did well at the box office, his overall earnings dropped substantially. His fame quotient is also low due to minimal presence on Twitter. Kalyan, who formed the Jana Sena Party, faced a lot of flak for his silence on the cash-for-votes scandal involving a TDP MLA.
Imtiaz Ali (2014 rank: 76) One of Bollywood’s most prolific filmmakers dropped out of the list as he didn’t have any release since Highway in February 2014. His latest, Tamasha, does not fall in the time period under consideration. His fame quotient also remains low due to his absence from social media platforms.
Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy (2014 RANK: 82) The ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ of Bollywood, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, had a disappointing run this year. While they composed music for three movies—Kill/Dil (2014), Dil Dhadakne Do (2015) and Katti Batti (2015)—only songs from Zoya Akhtar’s Dil Dhadakne Do managed to top the charts. Not what you would expect from this trio.
Viswanathan Anand (2014 RANK: 84) Viswanathan Anand’s performance graph has been spiralling downwards since he lost to World No 1 Magnus Carlsen of Norway in the 2014 World Chess Championship. He secured the ninth rank at the 2015 Sinquefield Cup, with two losses and seven draws in the tournament.
