Abidi started his career in 1977 as a darkroom assistant. An Indian Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist, he has previously worked at the Pan-Asia News Agency (PANA), Indo Photo News, and Press Trust of India. Abidi has been part of two Pulitzer Prize-winning packages for photography, the Rohingya exodus in 2018 and the Hong Kong protests in 2020.
