Pharrell's friendship with Japanese streetwear designer Nigo and their common interests in skater and pop culture, Jap streetwear, space travel and hip-hop resulted in the launch of their label Billionaire Boys Club in 2003 and a skate-centric footwear line called Ice Cream. In 2006, Pharrell gave BAPE's signature "Road Sta" sneaker a makeover, with three colour variants and a comic-stylized face of himself on its heel. To this day, it's a collectable and an example of the impact and legacy of BBC in popularising streetwear on the high fashion scene.
